Two men from Valletta were this morning remanded in custody after they pleaded not guilty to stealing Coca Cola, croissants and a microwave oven. The total value was some €230.

Curtis Bakoush, 21, and Jason Caruana, known as il-killer, 36, were accused of stealing the food and the microwave from the store of a supermarket. They also pleaded not guilty to relapsing.

Police inspector Pierre Micallef Grimaud said that although he objected to bail, he did not have any fear of evidence being tampered with because the people who lived in the area were fed up with the two men and would not speak to them.

Defence lawyers Marion Camilleri and Mark Mifsud Cutajar argued that their clients should be considered innocent until proven otherwise and they so should therefore be granted bail.
