A Żejtun man was charged with assaulting two police officers, slightly injuring one of them.

Nazzareno Abela, 49, pleaded not guilty to threatening the officers on Saturday at about 5 p.m. in Żejtun. He also pleaded not guilty to injuring one of the officers and causing up to €116 worth of damage to his watch.

He was also charged with disobeying police orders and using vulgar language in public. Magistrate Anthony Vella granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000.

Police inspector Priscilla ­Caruana prosecuted.
