A 23-year-old Libyan zoo keeper yesterday pleaded not guilty to importing heroin.

Magistrate Michael Mallia heard Abdul Salam Mahmoud Muhammed Abdullah deny conspiring to import, importing and possessing the drug in circumstances which denoted it was not for his personal use. The court heard how Mr Abdul had arrived on a flight from Tripoli on Tuesday allegedly carrying the drug.

Magistrate Mallia subsquently remanded Mr Abdullah in custody.

Police Inspector Dennis Theuma prosecuted.
