A 30-year-old Libyan national was yesterday remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to importing three kilogrammes of heroin.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli heard Abuagila Elwahishi plead not guilty to conspiring to import heroin, importing the drug and being in possession of the substance in circumstances denoting it was not for his exclusive use.

Mr Elwahishi was arrested early on Tuesday afternoon at the airport on his arrival on a flight from Tripoli. A package containing what the prosecution is claiming is heroin, was allegedly found in the false bottom of his bag after an X-ray scan.

Police Inspectors Pierre Grech and Victor Aquilina prosecuted.

Lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores appeared as legal aid for Mr Elwahishi.
