A 25-year-old man from Dingli was this morning charged with breaking into two shops in Birkirkara and causing damage to the establishments.

Annise Bejaoui - who turns 26 next Thursday - pleaded not guilty to stealing cash and other items from Shoemarket and Martina's on Sunday night.

He was also charged with breaching the conditions of previous court releases and relapsing.

The accused was remanded in police custody.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri recommended that he is kept at the forensic ward within Mount Carmel Hospital.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino represented the accused.
