A man yesterday denied holding his mother against her will and chasing her with a knife in an incident in front of their home.

The 34-year-old Rabat man also allegedly stole €230 from her and threatened to kill her during the argument, which took place in Attard on Monday afternoon.

Police Inspector Silvana Zrinzo Azzopardi said that, after the incident, none of his family wanted to speak to the accused and asked the officer to make sure they were under a protection order from the courts.

Defence lawyer Joe Brincat said he had known the family and was convinced the mother would probably retract her complaint.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani granted the accused bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 and a deposit of €500. The accused was ordered not to go to his mother’s house and the court issued a protection order for the family.
