A man was yesterday charged with stealing about €50,000 in a hold-up on his former boss.

David Mifsud, 28, of Pietà, pleaded not guilty to stealing the money from Doriette Tedesco on September 15.

Police Inspector Michael Mallia said Mr Mifsud, who has a drug problem, was arrested soon after the hold-up took place but was released on lack of evidence. Eventually, however, fingerprint testing revealed Mr Mifsud was involved and he was re-arrested.

“There were networks of contacts between him and other suspects,” the officer told Magistrate Anthony Vella.

Mr Mifsud also pleaded not guilty to holding Ms Tedesco against her will.

The alleged hold-up took place at about 5.30 p.m. when Ms Tedesco, who owns a restaurant in St Julians, was about to enter her house in Naxxar.

Magistrate Vella remanded Mr Mifsud in custody.

Police Inspector Joseph Mercieca also prosecuted.

Lawyer Cedric Mifsud appeared for Mr Mifsud.
