The Table Tennis Academy (www.tabletennisacademy.com) will be holding its third ranking tournament of the season at the Civil Service Sports Club, Valletta, on Saturday.

This competition will be combined with an Open Day, starting at 10 a.m. The activity will be managed by the Academy's head coaches, Mario Genovese and Edward Baldacchino. They will provide expert information about the game as well as highlighting the activities held by their organisation.

Players from the Academy feature highly in table tennis events locally and abroad. In the MTTA National Teams League, the Academy-backed teams ended the first round with top honours.

TTA Tibhar, composed of Genovese, Baldacchino, Daniel Vella Fondacaro and Matthew Micallef, are leading the First Division standings and the St James TTA 'A' in the Second Division, composed of Andrea Portelli, Marcus Portelli and Daniel Portelli, are third.

Dream Team, made up of Olaf Magri, Ryan Tabone, Dario Portelli and Miguel Balzan, are currently top of the Third Division and two other Academy teams, Blade TTA and St James TTA 'B', are also showing showing good promise in this category.

Meanwhile, Academy players dominated the MTTA Junior Ranking Tournaments last month, winning first place in all three categories. Vella Fondacaro was first in the U-18, Dario Portelli won the U-15 competition following a nail-biting final with TTA colleague Andrea Portelli who outclassed all opposition in the U-13 division.
