A Carlos Bacca brace and a Gianluca Lapadula penalty saw AC Milan beat Chievo 3-1 to move ahead of rivals Inter into sixth place in Serie A.

Bacca put Milan up in the 24th minute against the run of play as he delivered a right-footed finish to open the scoring.

Chievo's Serge Gakpe was pulled down by Mattia De Sciglio in the area late in the first half, and Jonathan de Guzman stepped up to fire home the penalty, to equalise the proceedings.

Bacca had a chance to give his team the lead minutes later from the penalty spot, after Bostjan Cesar was whistled for a handball in the area. But Bacca fired his penalty over the bar, to keep things level heading into the half.

But Bacca would not be denied in the 70th minute.

Milan added a third from the penalty spot to seal the game. Lapadula stepped up to give his side the two-goal advantage and move ahead of rivals Inter with a game in hand.
