Last week the first vehicle chassis and aluminium body from the AC Cars factory in the UK was flown to the Shelby Auto facility in Las Vegas for completion.

This is the first of a series of hand-built cars to be built either in the UK or Malta that are going to be exported for sale in the United States.

Alan Lubinsky, chairman of AC Motor Holdings, told The Sunday Times that the car is to be sold as the Shelby AC Cobra, following a tie-up between the two historic marques last October. Mr Lubinsky is this week travelling to the US to take part in three events in Florida where the Shelby AC Cobra will be on display, the concours d'elegance in Amelia Island, the Sebring and the Barrett Jackson auction in West Palm Beach.

Plans are in hand to open the AC Cars Malta plant in Hal Far next month with a local workforce. The cars will be sold in the US market.
