I am a 72-year-old who must use two walking sticks to move around. Luckily, I can drive. I live in Sliema, and no one knows better than me the existing abuse of the Blue Card.

In fact I could not agree more with Godwin Gamilleri (The Sunday Times, November 21). But unfortunately, the authorities seem to give the cold shoulder to complaints by disabled people.

I say this because I cannot see why there should not be a fine of at least €1,000 for misuse of the Blue Card, as there is in the UK. Only then will the abuse be curtailed, if not stopped altogether.

May I suggest that there should be three types of Blue Card: one for people under 18 who cannot drive; one for elderly people who those who can drive, but who cannot walk.

Also, the following should be printed on each Blue Card: “Can be used only when the holder is in the car.”
