A 27-year-old British man was rescued by an AFM helicopter from Wied Babu in Zurrieq this evening after he fell while abseiling with a group of friends.

He was lifted out of the valley just before 8pm in a complex operation, part of which was in the dark.

The man fell at around 4.45pm and his friends tried to assist him but had to call the police about an hour later after their attempts failed.

Civil Protection Officers arrived on site and helped two of the friends up but could not assist the Briton.

Two other friends and the Briton were then lifted by an AFM helicopter.

The Briton suffered leg injuries.
