Malta’s best woman bowler Sue Abela added another accolade to her name when she finished third in the Commonwealth Championships which are currently being held in New Zealand.

Abela managed a total pinfall of 1,183 points, the same as England’s Lisa John for joint third place. The women’s tournament was won by Kirsten Penny (England – 1,301) with Malaysia’s Siti Shazwani the runner-up with 1,188 pins.

In the same competition, Joanna Attard placed 13th from among a field of 18 players with 1,070 points.

The Maltese team in Auckland is composed of Abela, Attard, Justin Caruana Scicluna and Neil Sullivan.

In the men’s singles, Sullivan finished seventh (1,185) and Caruana Scicluna 13th (1,132).

The doubles events will be played tomorrow and the Championships round up with the Masters events during the weekend.
