Ten years ago, in 1998, I returned to my birthplace after 27 years abroad.
Why? Because the Labour Party was in power.
Four months later, the then Prime Minister decided to have an early election. What a shock for me and thousands of other Maltese citizens!
The then deputy le ader of the Labour Party, George Abela, was completely against having an early election.
He resigned. He was proved right. We know what the result was.
Against my convictions, I had no alternative but to vote, twice in succession, for a party which I did not agree with.
Since I was in favour of joining the EU, which I felt was vital for Malta, I had no choice but to vote for that particular party.
Surely, one should give Dr Abela his due, and vote for him unanimously as the new party leader with Joseph Muscat as his deputy.
