The Labour Party needed a new leadership which would have no links to the electoral defeats the party had suffered, leadership candidate George Abela had said.
He told a reception for party delegates in Marsascala that the MLP needed a different leadership, one that could win a new majority.
"We need to be credible in all that we say and do. Our actions need to inspire confidence and new hope which would translate into new votes for Labour.
"We need to offer peace of mind and a better future for the people. We need to be a serious and firm opposition that is useful to the people and which will show it is an alternative government," Dr Abela said.
Dr Abela said a priority for him as leader would be party unity.
