The man abducted in Libya on Monday is well, according to government sources.

The sources said Pierre Baldacchino, 36, had made brief telephone contact with St James Hospital, where he worked in Tripoli.

Mr Baldacchino was snatched while he was being driven home from work.

Three Libyan men who were with him were allowed to go free.

The reasons for the abduction are still not known.
