AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati has been ruled out for up to three weeks with a groin problem.

The 33-year-old sustained the injury during Saturday night's 1-0 win at Parma and will miss the majority of October's matches.

A statement from AC Milan read: "Abbiati will return to play in 15 to 20 days' time.

"Abbiati has a strain in the adductor muscle on his right thigh."

The former Italy international will sit out the glamour Champions League trip to Real Madrid on October 19 and the Serie A clash with Chievo three days beforehand.

Marco Amelia, who joined Milan on loan from Genoa this summer, will deputise.
