Atalanta's home game with Milan will be replayed behind closed doors after the original match was abandoned because of crowd trouble, the Italian league said yesterday.

Atalanta's north stand will also be closed to fans until March 31 next year, a league statement said.

The game on Nov. 11 in Bergamo was halted after seven minutes when a small pocket of Atalanta fans tried to break down a glass perimeter fence preventing them from entering the pitch.

Players from both sides tried to calm the supporters down but were warned that more violence would result if the game was not called off.

Fans had clashed with police before kick-off as anger spread over news a Lazio supporter had been shot dead by a policeman following scuffles at a service station near Arezzo in Tuscany.

Lazio's game at Inter and Roma's home match with Cagliari, which were postponed because of the trouble, have already been re-arranged for December 5.

No date has been given for the replayed Atalanta-Milan game.
