From all-out Normandy re-enactments, to a visit by Britain's Queen Elizabeth with French President Holland, the schedule ahead of the 70th anniversary of D-Day landings today is packed with events.

In Normandy, France itself, WWII buffs aren't missing out on an opportunity to seize the day -- and the beach.

They're paying tribute to the soldiers who landed on those shores 70 years ago.

Prince Charles has visited landing craft used in the D-Day landings, and met with veterans. He also saw an 89-year-old former paratrooper re-enact his D-Day jump.

In Paris, Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, greeted by French President Francois Hollande, laid a wreath at the tomb on the unknown soldier.

June 6 will commemorate the 1944 sea-born invasion that helped speed up the defeat of Nazi Germany.
