I admire your columnist Tanja Cilia’s tenacity and perseverance in constantly drawing the attention of all broadcasters and script writers to the consistent mistakes they keep making in Maltese. I truly sympathise with her because hers is like a voice in the wilderness.

Those responsible for the various TV and radio stations have a sacrosanct duty to respect the language spoken by the majority of their listeners and viewers. They should only employ presenters and scriptwriters who speak and write correct Maltese.

How can we expect our children and students to speak and write their language correctly when they keep hearing and reading incorrect Maltese? What is the Broadcasting Authority doing about this atrocious state of affairs? Don’t they ever read the constant criticism levelled at them? Can we ever hope for some kind of widespread improvement?
