A variety of workshops will be held next month offering different age groups the opportunity to work with experts specialised in dance, singing and acting.

Masquerade Summer Experience 2010 offers opportunities to performers to explore creative practice and to meet like-minded participants, a spokesman for the drama company said.

The aim of the workshops, which will be held between July 19 and 31, is to give participants a unique view on performance while being confronted with challenging approaches.

Guest tutors theatre director Paul David Gough, musical director Luke Thornton and choreographer Belinda Basu will deliver a series of workshops focusing on both a performer's individual skill and their role as an ensemble player.

Since graduating from The Welsh College of Music and Drama, in Cardiff, Mr Gough (drama/acting) worked extensively in theatre and television as both an actor and theatre director. In 1996, he became the artistic director of the Theatre Academy at the Grand Theatre Blackpool, leading the youth arts programme and directing main-house productions up until as recently as 2007. In 2001, Mr Gough was named artistic director of the professional theatre company based at Wigan Pier and since 2002 has continued to direct at Salford University, The Lowry, Manchester, Oldham Coliseum Theatre (Forum Theatre) and the Grand Theatre Blackpool.

Mr Thornton (music/singing) trained at Guildford School of Acting in Musical Theatre and then worked with P&O Cruises travelling the world as a singer/dancer for four years. He is currently playing keyboards with the orchestra for the London production of Les Miserables. He spent four years at the Queens Theatre and has run summer schools and workshops in musical theatre for over 10 years and is now teaching for Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom.

Trained at Laine Theatre Arts, England, Belinda Basu (choreography/dance) completed a dance and teaching diploma in performing arts. On graduating, she became head of jazz at Tanz-Etage, Bremerhaven, Germany and was a guest in musical theatre productions throughout Germany. She also freelanced as a choreographer. She returned to England in 2002 and to Laine Theatre Arts. Her move to New English Contemporary Ballet, Nottingham, in 2008 developed Ms Basu's skills further as a choreographer. From first rehearsals to opening night, classes in singing, dancing and acting will integrate, showing how all three disciplines can work together bringing characters and storylines to life!

There will be classes for children aged seven and above and workshops for adults. Different sessions will be held for experienced performers and beginners. Groups are divided according to age and experience. Students will attend three hours daily for 10 days (afternoons or evenings).
