The Malta Cricket Association (MCA) Summer League came to a rainy finish at Marsa last weekend.

In fact, the last two games on the fixtures’ list, Melita-Overseas and Marsa-Krishna were both washed out. It is very ironic that both divisions had to finish in the same way this year.

Melita were declared champions of the tournament with 42 points. They finished ahead of Marsa (36), Krishna (24) and Overseas (6).

This was Melita’s second Summer League title, their first coming in the inaugural tournament of 2005. Since then, Marsa have won it three times and Krishna once.

The best bowling figures of the tournament were compiled by Marsa’s Ronnie Sacco who took five wickets for six runs against Krishna in his team’s opening game.

The highest individual score came from Krishna batsman Andy Lenard. He made 58 runs from 30 balls against Overseas.

In Division Two, Derek Ali (Betfair) had the best individual score of 72 runs from 30 balls against RMG and the best bowling figures were those of Betfair’s Joy Ghoseroy – three wickets for 11 runs, also against RMG.

Next weekend, Marsa take on new touring team Queen’s Park, from the UK.

The two teams will play two 40-over games with starting time being 10.30 a.m. on both days.
