The 2009 edition of the National Youth Parliament, a simulation of a parliamentary assembly for young people aged between 13 and 34, was recently launched by the National Youth Council (KNZ).

Participants will be trained in public speaking and creative thinking, take part in live-ins, hold discussions on complex themes and develop proposals to be discussed between different groups in the youth parliament and eventually presented to Government and the opposition.

There will be two assemblies, one for those aged 13 to 16 and another for those aged over 17. The latter goup will discuss themes such as the right to life, including topics such as abortion, IVF and cloning, creativity and innovation, and social challenges such as drug abuse, prostitution and gambling.

Applications from prospective participants will be received until June 30. Further information is available on the KNZ website www.knz.org.mt or by contacting Angelo Micallef, KNZ national events officer on e-mail angelo.micallef@knz.org.mt.
