It is interesting to note that the government's general policy on hotels and other accommodation for tourism was to encourage their upgrading, both structurally and service-wise, to be more competitive with other destinations. Pity this policy was not implemented before some hotels were allowed to close down and before the horses bolted.
On the other hand, if these hotels were foreign-owned factories, a financial package of assistance would have been forthcoming in the name of saving jobs. As if hotel jobs are not as equally important!
Our administrators must now be proud of creating a "ghost town" as a new tourist attraction in Buġibba!
