Next month, St James Cavalier will be screening Derek Jacobi live in his role as King Lear in the eponymous play, from the Donmar Warehouse in London
The famous Shakesperean tragedy recounts the tale of an ageing monarch, a kingdom divided and a child’s love rejected. As Lear’s world descends into chaos, all that he once believed is brought into question.
One of the greatest works in western literature, King Lear explores the very nature of human existence: love and duty, power and loss, good and evil.
The Donmar’s artistic director, Michael Grandage directs.
The play has been critically acclaimed. The Guardian said: “the miracle of Michael Grandage’s production is that it is fast (under three hours), vivid, clear and, thanks to a performance that reminds us why Derek Jacobi is a great classical actor, overwhelmingly moving”.
King Lear will be screened live at St James Cavalier, Valletta, on February 3 at 8 p.m. There will be encore screenings on February 5, 18 and 20.For more information, visit www.sjcav.org.
