Those who help reduce traffic jams are being punished.
Like many other customers, I recently became a victim of the unbelievable tariff policy of Malta Public Transport.
On July 1, the 24-hour ticket jumped up from €1.50 to €2, a hefty 33 per cent increase.
Even worse, when I took the bus I came to know that the validity of the already expensive ticket has been reduced from 24 to just two hours.
In other words, beyond two hours, you now pay €4 for a round-trip instead of €2.
Including the first rise, this is a huge jump of 167 per cent and public transport has become nearly twice as expensive as in a city like Paris.
Doubts are permitted as to whether the service in Malta is twice as good.
If I qualify this as utterly disgusting, it is because I watch my language. May those who are responsible for such decisions be the first victims of the increasingly suffocating individual traffic on this island.
