Sunday, April 26, was a special day in the diary of priestly vocations in the diocese of Gozo. Gozitan youth Anthony-George Caruana, son of Gozitan painter Anthony Caruana of Xagħra, was ordained deacon in the Scottish College off the Via Cassia in Rome by Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow, Scotland. He began his studies to the priesthood in the Sacred Heart Seminary of Gozo and proceeded to the Scottish-Roman Seminary where he furthered his studies in theology after deciding he wanted to serve the Church in Scotland. He is now incardinated to the archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh in Scotland where he will serve as priest after next year's ordination to the priesthood.

I had the privilege of concelebrating in the ordination Mass together with a big number of priests from our two Maltese dioceses. Among the concelebrants there were Mgr Frans Bonnici, canon of St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, Mgr Carmelo Refalo and Mgr Ewkarist Sultana, parish priest and parish priest emeritus of the Xagħra parish respectively, Can Tonio Galea, parish priest of Munxar, Gozo and various other priests from Malta and Gozo. The ordination Mass was beautiful in its simplicity and Archbishop Conti delivered an interesting homily about the significance of the Catholic priesthood.

Dear Anthony-George, congratulations!
