I would like to enlighten your readers about the subject treated on April 26. I also live at Ta` Xmiexi Road, in Msida, as your correspondent, who practically lives next door to me.

My council twice informed the Planning Authority that it had passed a resolution requesting the PA to withhold the issuing of the building permit in question until Ta` Xmiexi Road is connected to St Louis Street. For reasons best known to the PA it chose to ignore our advice. Unfortunately, as the law now stands, the PA can ignore our recommendations and we are powerless.

However, I personally contacted the director, roads, and insisted that Ta` Xmiexi Road be opened up and joined with St Louis Street as expeditiously as possible once the temporary exit onto Regional Road was walled up by the plot`s owner. My council painted yellow lines at the exit of Zamenhof Street with Tower Street so that there would be a smooth flow of traffic there. And the residents would not be imprisoned by irresponsible parking at the junction mentioned above.

I would also like to point out to Ms Mary Pace that the PA always consults local councils on the issuing of building permits, however consultation as the law stands at present is just that! I object to the reference of being a pawn to be used by the political parties.

I took legal action against the administration of the day when it was necessary to do so and I will do it without flinching if the need arises without fear or favour, whoever the administration might be. As to the duties of local councils, I leave it to the electorate to judge what a great change the local councils have brought to our island.
