Francis Zammit Dimech has been appointed head of a commission to review the Nationalist Party’s statute and its structures.

The veteran MP will lead 10 other members in an exercise aimed at updating the party structures as promised by party leader Simon Busuttil.

Dr Zammit Dimech contested the leadership post and pulled out of the race when it was clear Dr Busuttil enjoyed the trust of an absolute majority of councillors.

The commission has until the end of July to come up with recommendations for change.

In a statement the PN said the commission will propose changes to make the party “more open, inclusive, organised and closer to the people”.

It will have access to all the information necessary and is empowered to meet and consult with any official, councillor, member and activist.

The commission will be assisted by the administration.

“This is the first step in a series of actions that started this week to reorganise the PN,” Dr Busuttil was quoted as telling commission members at their first meeting yesterday.

The commission members are Therese Comodini Cachia, John Bonello, Valentina Cassar, Christabelle Ebejer, Angelo Micallef, Gejtu Vella, Kevin Cutajar, David Zahra, Noel Galea and Josianne Cardona Gatt.
