I would like to say a very big well done and thank you to all the staff at Zammit Clapp Hospital not only for their daily care and dedication towards the residents under their care but, especially, for Tuesday, when a fire broke out at the home.

I am more than sure that each and every one of them went beyond the call of duty. There was no panic or chaos and, apart from some beds in the corridors, which they had to bring down from the third floor where the fire broke out in the laundry room, everything was business as usual. Even the meals, though a little later than usual, which was to be expected on such an occasion, weren’t just sandwiches as one would expect.

Thank you also to everyone else who helped evacuate some of the residents to the floors below or to other homes: the police, the fire department, ambulances and staff from Mater Dei Hospital and St James Hospital and everyone who in one way or other helped to keep everything running smoothly.

On behalf of my mother, and I’m sure all the other residents and their families, I would once again like to thank all these people and may God Bless them.
