Members of the public have been asked to share their experience of using alternative means of transport through a photographic competition organised by Friends of the Earth.

“Maybe you’ll be using the services of Arriva, or perhaps your own bicycle. For shorter distances, you might try walking or maybe even using some exotic vehicle like a donkey cart,” the organisation said, inviting people to send in photographs of their experience.

“Whatever mode of transportation you decide to use, let us know about your own picturesque experience with car freeness.”

The submitted pictures – or graphic designs such as posters – should tell a story, contain a visual message and make the applicant’s personal point about a desirable development of public spaces and mobility.

Applicants may expand on this pictorial story with a caption of up to 30 words and a relevant image title.

The best will be presented in a public exhibition later this year.

FOE will also award prizes for the top three pictures and stories.

Entries should be e-mailed to carfreeday@foemalta.org or submitted through the Friends of the Earth website. Participants must include their name, contact number and home address.

The competition is open until Sunday. Late submissions will not be considered.
