People can vote for a psychological thriller written by a Maltese doctor to be crowned overall winner in the finals of the People’s Book Prize UK.
Isabella Camilleri, who moved to the UK when she graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Malta, published a trilogy between 2012 and 2013. One of these – The Blake Curse – features Ben Blake, a gifted British intelligence officer on his first undercover assignment. The plot is set in the city of Cambridge and includes references to Comino.
Last year, the book was nominated for the People’s Book Prize UK, an annual literary award voted for by the public and whose patron is Frederick Forsyth, an English author and political commentator.
It received positive reviews on online bookshops Amazon and Goodreads. After a three-month vote, The Blake Curse became one of the three finalists in the Summer 2013 Collection and is now competing for the top prize. Online voting will remain open until Wednesday.
Dr Camilleri’s Maltese roots inspire her writing, which she says relieves her from the everyday stress of her demanding medical job. In turn, her medical background gives depth to the fictional characters in her books.
