Young musicians will feature in the Malta Cultural Institute concert being held at Le Meridien St Julian’s Hotel and Spa in Balluta Bay this evening at 7pm.

Eleven-year-old pianist Laetitia Amodio will be playing works by Beethoven, Debussy, Chopin, Liszt and Villa-Lobos.

Laetitia has been tutored by her mother Charmaine Amodio, LRSM, since she was five. She has passed all eight grades of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with Distinction, being a board prize-winner in Grades 7 and 8. In 2012, at the age of 10, she obtained the ALCM and LLCM Diplomas in Pianoforte Performance.

She has participated and placed first in three international piano competitions in Italy – Trapani, Bologna and Barletta.

Wherever she participates, she is singled out and awarded special prizes as in Sumy, Ukraine.

She performs extensively both in Malta and abroad and participates regularly in pianoforte master classes with world-renowned professors.

The Valletta Ensemble, made up of 21 children and teenagers, will present a programme of modern popular music. This orchestra, directed by Roderick Bugeja and Valhmor Montfort, came together as an ensemble in February 2011. Their repertoire varies from the classical to modern and jazz.

Artist Rita Scicluna will be presenting an exhibition of handicrafts, including crochet, cross-stitch and beading.

She is mostly self-taught, but some years ago she took a course at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology and the Society of Arts, Maufactures and Commerce.

Entrance to the concert is free but donations towards the MCI fund to help cover the evening’s expenses are welcome.
