Yoga classes for children which will give them flexibility, strength, body awareness, concentration anda sense of calmness will start onOctober 8.

The classes will be taught by Janet Vella, a dance teacher and mother, and are aimed at improving and helping children navigate life’s challenges with a little more ease.

Today’s children live in a hurry-up world of busy parents, school pressures, incessant lessons, video games, malls, and competitive sports. Many usually don’t think of these influences as stressful for children, but often they are. Yoga brings that marvellous inner light that all children have to the surface.

Vella says: “Children need to discover the world on their own. Telling them to think harder, do it better, or be a certain way because it’s good for them is not the optimal way.”

Combining her dance and yoga experience from her stay in India, Vella will be synthesising Asanas, breath, rhythm and dance using dynamics of Ashtanga Yoga with the flow of contemporary dance and rhythm.

Classes will start at The Garden View in Pembroke on October 8. The yoga sessions will form part of the Fitness Camps for Kids, which involves three hours of fun, focus and fitness.

There are also weekly and weekend fitness camps for mums and dads. Call 7731 5231 or e-mail vljandance@gmail.com.
