The association Malte Accueil recently organised a walk in Xemxija near St Paul’s Bay. The weather was not good but spirits were. Under Frank Scerri’s guidance, the group discovered 6,000 years of Maltese archaeological history concentrated in this small but fascinating area.

From prehistoric traces of human life to Neolithic and Punic tombs, caves, Roman baths and apiaries, cart ruts and carobs, Mr Scerri explained each stone and plant with the passion that led him through the years to clean, restore and rebuild this place.

He literally unearthed most of what is to be seen, as these important historical remains had been forgotten and taken over by nature. His work included creating a pictorial map of Xemxija and St Paul’s Bay.
