I refer to Fr Joseph Mallia’s letter (April 4). The danger has been partly eliminated since the dangerous wall has been pulled down and replaced by large stone blocks. For this, we, who use Xemxija Hill daily, are truly thankful.

Works should be taken in hand to pull down this old wall and set it back- Charles Calleja, St Paul’s Bay

However, it was expected that the new blocks would be placed along the proposed alignment.

Not only was this not done, but they are now in fact further out, at one point further out than the position of the old wall, thereby encroaching on this very busy road.

Are the authorities aware of this abuse? And why was the rest of the old wall left to stand in the condition it is, with bulging and cracked masonry and iron gates and railings in imminent danger of toppling onto some unwary traveller?

With all the roadworks going on in the area between Xemxija Hill and Ċirkewwa, it is surprising how such an insignificant road widening is not taken in hand to pull down this old wall and set it back to its approved proposed alignment.
