While one cannot but appreciate the hard and tedious job the police are doing for the benefit of the public, one still cannot fathom how such a serious and traumatic blunder could happen to a peaceful law-abiding citizen such as Darryl Borg.

Such a horrible accusation about an innocent man – which, though rare, could wrongly happen to anybody – is very disturbing and after the findings of the investigating board, the Police Force should put the public’s mind at rest with a reassurance that new safeguards are in place to guarantee that no such mishaps will occur again.

Also, that if, God forbid, such a bad mistake were to happen again, the victim should be expeditiously set free and not remain in prison until the usual procedure is executed.

Now, the least the police could do, if, that is, it has not done yet so, is apologise to the innocent man while the State should not wait for years to compensate Borg adequately.
