Londoners will be able to keep track of the Rugby World Cup as they travel around the capital as updates will be streamed across the Tube and DLR network.

Latest scores, results and news will be displayed on digital information boards at over 180 stations throughout the six-week tournament which begins when England face Fiji at Twickenham on Friday.

The service was unveiled at Southwark Tube station by England’s Maggie Alphonsi (pictured), who won the Women’s Rugby World Cup last year.

Hero dog sensed toxic fumes

A guide dog saved his owner and grandson’s life after using his sense of smell to detect toxic fumes from a faulty fridge, the Mirror reported.

Paul, of Hartlepool, and his wife Barbara, were treated in hospital after they inhaled the strong fumes.

Cookie criminal caught again

Police in Pennsylvania say a repeat shoplifter has been caught with raspberry cookies down his trousers.

Reports say that 47-year-old James Kaylor faces a preliminary hearing on September 23 based on his most recent arrest. Kaylor, who has six previous retail theft arrests and four convictions, was checking out at Martins Food Store in Altoona when a clerk told police Kaylor had shoved something down his trousers on September 5. Police say they confronted Kaylor after he paid for his other items but not the box of raspberry biscuits.

Altoona police say Kaylor acknowledged the theft was a stupid thing to do. The new charge is a felony – despite the small value of the cookies – because of Kaylor’s criminal record.
