A dead crocodile has been discovered next to a golf course, leaving animal welfare officers baffled as to how it got there.

Concerned passers-by contacted the Scottish SPCA to say they had spotted a reptile in a stream at Carnwath Golf Course, near Biggar in South Lanarkshire.

Officers initially thought it was a prank but found it was actually a 1.4 metre-long West African dwarf crocodile, which someone had apparently tried to stuff.

Claims £140,000 fraudulently

A woman who claimed £140,000 in benefits by fraudulently saying she was wheelchair-bound was caught after she was filmed water-skiing.

Janet Curtis, 64, pleaded guilty to nine offences of dishonesty spanning more than a decade when she appeared at Ipswich Crown Court, Suffolk Coastal District Council said.

After she was sentenced, the council released video footage showing her water-skiing in Florida. Investigators also established she had enjoyed a cruise on the QEII.

Tetris still popular after 30 years

Tetris, the puzzle game that launched in 1984, has had people hooked for 30 years because it appeals to the basic mental instinct to tidy things, an expert said.

Dr Tom Stafford, from Sheffield University, has marked the game’s 30th birthday by analysing the addictive and timeless nature of the title, which originated in the former Soviet Union.

In a video posted on YouTube, Dr Stafford said the tidying and puzzle-solving aspect of the game delivers the same kind of psychological satisfaction as scratching an itch, and that has played a large part in the game remaining so popular.

Swearing man files lawsuit

A western Pennsylvania man arrested for swearing in front of police has filed a lawsuit saying his right to free speech was violated.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper reported that Richard Pustovrh, from Houston, was arguing with his employers in September 2012 and they called the police.

A complaint says Pustovrh used an obscenity to voice his frustration after a Canonsburg police officer warned him not to. Mr Pustovrh wants a declaration the police actions were unconstitutional, and is seeking damages of 100,000 US dollars.

Prank played on school principal

Something seemed a little bit different about principal John Becchio as he made his rounds at Santa Barbara High School.

A mariachi group which greeted Becchio in his office and followed him around for an hour was a prank played by this year’s senior class.

The Santa Barbara Unified School District posted photos and video of the prank on its website. It is not the first such musical prank. Last year, seniors at West Linn High in Oregon hired a mariachi band to follow their principal around for a few hours.
