Justin Bieber had to leave his pet monkey in quarantine after arriving in Germany last week without the necessary papers for the animal, an official said.

The 19-year-old Canadian arrived at Munich Airport last Thursday.

Customs spokesman Thomas Meister said that when the singer went through customs he did not have the documentation necessary to bring the capuchin monkey into the country – so the animal had to stay with authorities.

18 killed in building collapse

Eighteen people were killed when a building collapsed in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city, police said yesterday.

Police Commissioner Meshak Saddik said poor equipment had hampered rescue efforts and there was little hope of pulling any more survivors from the debris.

He said more than 60 people may be trapped under the rubble. Officials said the building was about to be completed and did not have tenants.

Most of the people caught up in the collapse of the 12-storey building were labourers as well as those passing by or loitering nearby.

School head killed

A man armed with a gun and grenades attacked a school during a prize distribution ceremony in southern Pakistan, killing its principal and injuring six children before fleeing.

Police officer Masir Mehmood said the attacker struck as dozens of children gathered outside at their private school in Karachito received their exam results.

TV showed panicked relatives of the wounded children, who were between the ages of eight and 10, crying outside the school in the port city’s Ittehad Town neighbourhood.
