Before his tangle with a Bronx Zoo tiger, David Villalobos adorned his Facebook page with odes to Mother Earth and affirmations like, “Be love and fearless”.

New York police said that Villalobos told detectives that it was without fear that he leapt from a train into the animal’s den. His reason was that “he wanted to be one with the tiger”.

Villalobos recounted how, after he landed on all fours, the 180-kilogram beast attacked him and dragged him around by his foot but, despite serious injuries, he was able to pet the tiger before his rescue. Now, a police spokesman has said that, based on those admissions and a complaint from the zoo, police were planning to arrest Villalobos on trespassing charges.

Loads of ‘Games’ manure

The manure from 52 police horses used during the Olympic and Paralympic Games is being used to fertilise London parks.

Scotland Yard temporarily stabled the horses, which patrolled the Olympic Park every day during the Games, in Newham, east London.

The first delivery of manure – 4.3 tonnes – will be used by the council in Newham’s parks on the rose and shrubs beds.

Synchronised flushing

City authorities in Zimbabwe’s second largest city said they are appealing to home owners to flush their toilets at a specified time as a way to unblock sewers after days of severe water rationing.

Bulawayo City Council has asked its more than one million residents to flush their toilets simultaneously when water supplies are restored.

City officials said “synchronised flushing” was needed to clear waste that would accumulated in sanitary facilities which will have been affected by days of water outages.

Bulawayo’s two main supply dams have been drying up because of drought conditions prevailing in the arid, south western part of Zimbabwe.

Not-so-special delivery

The Royal Mail has apologised to David Rollings after he received a birthday card – three years late.

The card, which had been sent first class on September 17, 2009, arrived at his Essex home last week.

Rollings, 62, told the Colchester Gazette: “I hadn’t given it a thought that my friends hadn’t posted a card. There is nothing wrong with the envelope, it’s not even bent.”

Couple’s disturbed sleep

A couple had a lucky escape after a speeding car was launched into their first-floor bedroom as they slept.

The silver Lexus came around a bend in Bridge Road, Epsom, mounted a parked Audi and flew into the side of the house, Surrey Police said.

The incident punched a large hole in the brick house, causing considerable damage to the owner’s bedroom and an en-suite bathroom.

The couple escaped unscathed, and three men who were travelling in the Lexus were taken to Epsom Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
