One in 10 single men would rather have an iPad 3 than a new partner, according to a poll.

The research found that 11 per cent of bachelors would rather own the popular Apple gadget than gain a new love interest.

And three per cent said they would happily leave a current partner if they were rewarded with the tablet device, the poll of 600 people by online casino RoxyPalace.com found.

Women were found to be more social creatures, with 84 per cent stating that they would prefer to have a new partner than an iPad 3. Just under half (44 per cent) of those polled said they had used an app to resolve a relationship problem, and 15 per cent regularly consulted the internet for relationship advice.

Students go for truancy scam

Dozens of students at a California secondary school are facing suspension or expulsion after they got into a computer system and changed their attendance records.

Berkeley High School principal Pasquale Scuderi said 50 students will be suspended and two or three expelled. Some students apparently obtained a password to the system, which was then sold to others.

The changes to students’ attendance records meant they could skip classes or school altogether without their parents knowing.

Man attacked and covered in ketchup

A man has been assaulted in his own home and then bizarrely covered in ketchupby his attackers.

UK police said two men entered the victim’s unlocked home, punched him and then poured tomato sauce over him. The intruders are then believed to have stolen his phone, phone charger and trainers.

The assault happened on the evening of April 16 in Ryecroft Street, in the Tredworth area of Gloucester. One of the offenders was described by police as a white man, six feet tall and wearing a dark hooded top.

Rangers stumped by frozen cows

The US Forest Service is considering using explosives to move a herd of frozen cows that died after getting stuck inside a cabin 3,353 metres up in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.

Rangers are worried about using trucks in a wilderness area, where the government bars permanent improvements and tries to preserve the habitat. Other options include burning the cabin and dragging the dead cows out with pack animals.

700 Chihuahuas to parade in style

A US promoter hopes to break a world record by parading at least 700 costumed dogs, mostly Chihuahuas, down a city street on a holiday celebrating the Mexican heritage.

Mark Valentine says the Kansas City parade will introduce Chihuahuas to their cultural heritage while helping an animal refuge. The Chihuahua breed’s name comes from the name of the Mexican state.

British bedroom habits are revealed

The bedroom is just as likely to be used for eating, texting and watching TV as sleeping these days, according to a UK survey.

As many as 14 per cent of people - and 48 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds - eat in bed, while 41 per cent play with new technology. Also, 36 per cent watch TV in bed, the poll by the Duvet and Pillow Warehouse found.

Non-sleeping activities are more to be found in younger people than old, with as many as 71 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds using iPads and laptops in bed. The poll showed that 10 per cent of women like to paint their nails in bed, while 77 per cent of all those surveyed read in bed.

Only 20 per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds iron their bedsheets, compared with 60 per cent of those aged over 55.
