Mtarfa was yesterday transformed into a World War II camp with actors and exhibitions giving a glimpse of what life was like all those years ago.

Visitors walked around restored military cars and motorcycles while listening to the sounds of 1940s records wafting through the air as actors dressed up as soldiers marched past them.

Re-enactments of battles and gun fire and even an air raid thrilled visitors of all ages. The Armed Forces of Malta also took part in the activity.

The old hospital, which was used during the war and which is now a school, opened its doors to a scale model exhibition while another room was changed into a typical hospital cubicle.

Architectural plans of key buildings in Malta, dating back the 19th century, were also on display.

A Victory Kitchen was set up offering a taste of what people had to put up with back then.

The Mtarfa clock tower was open to the public offering scenic views from the top. Abseiling was an alternative way of getting back down.
