The Malta International Table Tennis Centre will be celebrating the World Table Tennis Day by holding an open air event in front of the Law Courts in Valletta today between 9am and 1pm.

This is the first time that the world governing body International Table Tennis Federation is hosting this event aimed at bringing people together to play table tennis for fun, with focus being put less on competition but simply participation.

The World Table Tennis Day is being held on April 6 as this day was declared by the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

ITTF Development Director Leandro Olvech said: “We are very excited about the upcoming first World Table Tennis Day.

“Events can be big or small, the most important thing is to celebrate and share the passion for table tennis, having fun and bringing people together.”

There are currently 22 different countries from all continents that have registered some form of table tennis activity to celebrate the inaugural World Table Tennis Day.
