Five women were killed when their limousine caught fire as they were heading to a party in California.

Four other women escaped from the vehicle after the driver stopped on San Francisco’s San Mateo-Hayward Bridge on Saturday night.

San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said they were heading to a hotel to celebrate the recent wed-ding of a woman who died in the fire.

He said passers-by helped three women get out of a rear door, and a fourth woman managed to squeeze through the partition that separates the driver from the passengers.

The driver was not injured in the fast-moving fire that began in the back of the limo. (AP)

Treatment for grey hair soon

A cure for grey hair which means millions will be able to throw away messy dyes could be available in the future, researchers have said.

Scientists found people who are going grey develop “massive oxidative stress” via accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicle, which causes hair to bleach itself from the inside out.

According to the Faseb Journal, the team which includes experts from Bradford University’s School of Life Sciences, have discovered the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide can be remedied with a proprietary treatment. They described it as “a topical, UVB-activated compound called PC-KUS (a modified pseudocatalase)”, the report said. (PA)

Circus animals in pitch invasion

A galloping group of circus animals sent players and spectators scattering when they staged a pitch invasion during a soccer match in Vienna being played by two under-15 girls’ teams.

State broadcaster Orf reported that as the five Bactrian camels and eight llamas rushed on to the astroturf, the players and their fans ran to the circus that had set up its tent nearby.

The herd had apparently pushed over a fence to make its escape.

Orf said the animals were swiftly rounded up after they gave up trying to graze on the artificial surface. (PA)

A boy of five has shot dead his two-year-old sister in the US with a rifle he was given as a present.

Their mother told police in Kentucky she had been outside on a porch for “no more than three minutes” on when the shooting occurred.

The boy’s .22-calibre rifle was a present and he is used to shooting it, police said. It was kept in a corner and the family did not realise a shell was left inside it.

The local coroner said the shooting will be ruled accidental. (AP)
