Armando Trovajoli, an Italian who composed music for some 300 films and whose lush and playful serenade to Rome is a much-requested romantic stand-by for tourists, has died at the age of 95.

Trovajoli’s most famous song was the lushly orches-trated Roma Nun Fa’ La Stupida Stasera, written for the 1962 stage musical Rugantino. It is featured on a recently released Andrea Bocelli album of popular favourites.

The composer’s widow, Maria Paola Trovajoli, announced his death, saying her husband had died a few days ago in Rome but declined to give the exact date. The capital’s mayor, Gianni Alemanno, mourned Trovajoli’s passing, saying that “the voice of Rome has been extinguished”. (AP)

Bedtime tiffs result in lost sleep

Five million British couples are arguing three times a week under the duvet, resulting in 90 minutes of lost sleep, a survey suggests.

Fidgeting, snoring, not wanting to have sex and sleeping with pets are just some of the reasons why a quarter of British couples argue between the sheets at least three times a week, according to the sleep study by hotel chain Travelodge.

British couples are losing on average 90 minutes of valuable sleep each week – eventually building up to three full days of missed sleep over a year, Travelodge found in its survey of 2,000 British couples. (PA)

Rare comet on once-in-a-lifetime visit

A comet with a glowing tail makes a once-in-a-lifetime appearance in the evening sky this month.

Comet 2011 L4 Panstarrs has taken millions of years to travel out from the Oort cloud – a huge colony of icy objects at the edge of the Solar System. Throughout the month Panstarrs will be visible low in the west.

There could be good picture opportunities on March 12 and 13 when it brushes past the crescent moon. However, it might be difficult to see the object without binoculars or a telescope. Panstarrs is not expected to revisit our skies for 110,000 years. (AP)
