Berlin police yesterday released a photograph of the mysterious “forest boy” who turned to authorities nine months ago saying he lived in a wood for five years and did not know who he was.

Police in the German capital sent a picture of the smiling blond boy wearing a t-shirt and a gold necklace (pictured) to news outlets asking for help in getting to the bottom of a story that captured the world’s imagination last year.

“Despite the extensive studies and investigations, the youth office and the Berlin police were still not successful in identifying the boy who calls himself ‘Ray’,” the police statement, which was published in German and English, said.

Howell’s Hollande howler

A UK Foreign Office minister was ticked off in the House of Lords yesterday over his pronunciation of new French president Francois Hollande’s surname.

Labour’s Lord Grenfell, a former head of external affairs in the European Office, finally ran out of patience after Lord Howell of Guildford had made several stabs at getting the president’s name right.

“It seems a failing of successive governments to get the names of French presidents properly pronounced. The previous president was inevitably and almost always referred to as Mr Sarkozy, as if it was meant to rhyme with tea-cosy, and president ‘Ollande is president ‘Ollande and not president Hollander,” Lord Grenfell said.
