A 100-year-old Chinese restaurant in San Francisco once known for having “the world’s rudest waiter” is preparing its last insults and pork noodle rolls.

Sam Wo, a Chinatown hole-in-the-wall that typified the kind of ethnic eateries for which the city’s culinary scene was lauded before it became a trendy haven for foodies, planned to serve its last customers today.

Waiter Edsel Ford Fung, who died aged 57 in 1984, was known for verbally abusing patrons and slamming dishes on tables.

China asked about missile

South Korea has asked China whether it is the source of a sophisticated missile carrier displayed by North Korea during a military parade last weekend, a Seoul official said.

Military experts have pointed to China as the probable supplier of the 16-wheel truck, but China has denied it.

UN Security Council resolutions ban countries from supplying arms-related materials to North Korea.

Rocker guilty of bear killing

Ted Nugent has pleaded guilty to transporting a black bear he illegally killed in south east Alaska.

The rocker made the admission in signing a plea agreement with federal prosecutors that was filed in US District Court.

The plea agreement said Nugent illegally shot and killed the bear in May 2009 on Sukkwan Island days after wounding a bear in a hunt, which counted toward a state seasonal limit of one bear.

Search for boy continues

Investigators ripped up the basement floor of a Manhattan building in a hunt for the remains of a six-year-old boy who disappeared on his way to school in 1979.

Utility workers with jackhammers and saws helped chip away an area around ageing pipes, then law enforcers wearing workmen’s gloves carried out the basketball-size chunks of rubble and carefully placed them in refuse bins.

The material will be sifted and then taken elsewhere for testing as the search for Etan Patz continues.

Kenyan poachers shot dead

The Kenya Wildlife Service said its game rangers have shot and killed five suspected poachers in the country’s western region and recovered elephant tusks weighing 110 pounds.

Kenya Wildlife Service spokesman Paul Udoto said two game rangers were wounded in the gunfight that lasted 40 minutes early in the morning in Chepareria.
