Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue is celebrating 25 years in showbusiness by re-recording some of her old hits.

The singer, who released her debut single The Locomotion in Australia in 1987, recorded an acoustic version of her 1992 hit Finer Feelings at Abbey Road Studios.

More tracks from the session, which also featured a 24-piece orchestra, will be released throughout the year.

A video of the recording will be available on the star’s website but will only be released after 25,000 fans tweet from 7 p.m. today.

The star, who shot to fame in Neighbours, picked up an OBE in 2008 in recognition of a pop career that has seen her sell millions of albums and singles and transform herself from a manufactured pop star into a glamorous disco diva.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and underwent surgery and chemotherapy to beat the disease, before being given the all-clear the following year.

Dog sets fire to owner’s home

A dog set fire to its owner’s home after sniffing out a pizza which had been left on top of a cooker.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze by neighbours and broke down the front door of the semi-detached house in Drew Court, Ashby, as the owners were not at home.

The Staffordshire bull terrier had jumped up to try to get at the pizza which had been left on top, knocking one of the knobs on the cooker and turning it on, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said. The pizza caught fire and caused smoke damage to the kitchen.

Uses stolen card to buy pop

A woman in Massachusetts bought 64 dollars worth of pop using a stolen welfare benefits card, then immediately fed the full cans into the supermarket’s recycling machine for the 25 cent deposit on each.

Tina Cafarelli has pleaded not guilty theft, property destruction and receiving stolen property.

The electronic benefits card she used to buy the 18 12-packs of pop had another person’s name on it and the full cans caused extensive damage to the machine.

Paper clips to save money

A US dentist has admitted using paper clips instead of stainless steel posts in root canals.

Michael Clair admitted defrauding medical insurance companies of £100,000.

Prosecutors in Massa-chusetts say that for root canal work, instead of stainless steel posts, he used sections of paper clips – which can cause pain and even infection – in an effort to save money.
