Britain’s Prince Philip has launched a fierce attack on “absolutely useless” wind farms, in the latest outburst from the famously outspoken consort.

The husband of Queen Elizabeth II said that onshore wind farms would never work and accused their supporters of believing in “fairy tales”, a senior executive from a wind farm company has said.

“He said they were absolutely useless, completely reliant on subsidies and an absolute disgrace,” said Esbjorn Wilmar, of Infinergy, which builds and operates turbines.

Mr Wilmar suggested the Prince could put wind farms on his land, but he said that Prince Philip responded: “You stay away from my estate, young man.”

Too much make-up at work

More than a third of bosses believe some of their female colleagues wear too much make-up to work, a poll says.

Striking lipstick emerged as the most unappealing look, with 32 per cent of managers questioned saying they found strong colours too much for the office.

Over made-up eyes polled 28 per cent of the vote, while 15 per cent said too much blusher was a turn off. But more than one in 10 (12 per cent) bosses said they liked women to wear some make-up to work.

Fighting corruption

Dmitry Medvedev joked that he “sometimes itches” to execute civil servants convicted of corruption, Russian news agencies have reported.

“The severity of punishment has never been the most important thing for us. Of course, in other countries, you gun down civil servants in public but in our society it is not the same,” he said.

“But I sometimes itch to do something like that,” he said, during a visit to the southern Urals’ Bashkortostan region.

Mr Medvedev made the remark as he called for “effective” anti-corruption measures.
